Nordic Seaweed – from Research to Innovative Business Opportunities

Conference on research and innovation potential of seaweed in the Nordic region.  

Nordic Innovation, in collaboration with the Macro Cascade project, will host the conference “Nordic Seaweed – from Research to Innovative Business Opportunities”. It will be a two-day event in the Faroe Islands from 27 – 28 September 2017.

This event is also a part of the European Seaweed Platform, that Macro Cascade will initiate during its project lifetime. The idea is to gather once a year to discuss the status in the field, identify mutual needs, develop recommendations (e.g. for policy makers) on seaweed related issues, and discuss how in a concerted effort, this industry can be brought further.

The first day will consist of company visits to the Ocean Rainforest and its seaweed cultivation rigs,  then follow the supply chain with visits to drying and and processing facilities. It will also be possible for conference participants to visit major salmon farmer Bakkafrost to hear about their experience with seaweed cultivation close to their salmon cages.  The second day will focus on presentations from Nordic and European companies and researchers.
