Deliverable 6.1

The aim of Project Task 6 was to study the economic viability of the macroalgae cascading valorization schemes. Additionally, the MACRO CASCADE team intended to quantitatively assess the sustainability of the seaweed-based value chains via a multi-criteria evaluation of the technological, environmental, economic, and social aspects.

Under the guidance of the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, Deliverable 6.1 defined the scope, scenarios and criteria for the sustainability assessment of producing value-added components from seaweed. This report offers a description of the initial study, methodology and criteria that will be used to assess technical and economic feasibility of producing value-added compounds. Finally, the team developed a framework for the social analysis to assess the impact of seaweed cultivation and processing based on four criteria.
